================================================================================================= RECENT VISITOR MESSAGES NEW MESSAGE 30 March 2008: Dear Steve, first thank you for your web site- on behalf of all the ex-pats and anyone that relates to a combination of nostalgia and an update of life in a Whitchurch that is frozen in a time for me when I was young -and yet I am curious to see the changes- but of course it sparks a realization that indeed everything does change,- which makes looking at your web site bitter sweet for most of us me included. Recently I tried to contact by different means people that I had grown up with but as will be -not all was good news, to be honest either the old home town is a very unhealthy place to live or my old friends were not destined for a long and healthy life- anyway my name is Don Kendrick I was born 1950 in Llancaiach Road Whitchurch and I wasn't a bad bloke until I discovered women-circa 1963-in 1966 we emigrated to Australia and now I am asking if any of my old friends( or relatives if you must) could contact me -that would be great........thanks Don big.d.5.5@optusnet.com.au ================================================================================================= 30 Dec 2007: Hi Steven, what a great site. I stumbled across it whilst researching my ancestors. I come from a line of Bevan's from the Cardiff area ,Thomas Bevan actually, we're talking 1823 ,unfortunately they're a hard bunch to track down, but hey you have some interesting reading on your site, good work. Would you mind if I left my email address in hope some one knows my relo's, it would be much appreciated. Kind regards Wendy from Aus.... lillyfan356@hotmail.com ================================================================================================= 14 Nov 2007: Dear Steve, I am just starting on researching my fathers family and wondered if you have any information? My Grandfather was Richard Joseph Povey and was a tenant farmer in Radyr Court Road-his house is still there, a row of terraces (his was on the end away from Llandaff and had been doubled in size when I was last there). The farm is now a housing estate-in fact a new railway station is on the site of his piggeries! Even the contours of the hill have changed! He was married to Elsie Powell. Both were from large families-I think he was one of 11 and my grandmother one of 13-as was typical then. My grandmothers youngest sister, Florence Hutchins (known as Flo) has recently died, but she stayed at home to care for my maternal great-grandparents, I remember visiting 'Grampy Powell' when he was in his 90's and bedridden. Grampy (my grandfather) was apparently deemed to have done well at the time-1930's onwards and had working shire horses before the piggeries. His younger brother, Bert, lived next door though I can't remember if he helped with the farm or not. Any leads would be great. Thank you.
